From the Eastern Idaho Chapter of the Project Management Institute:

The Eastern Idaho Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) is offering the Project Management Professional (PMP) Exam Preparation Class during the Winter of 2012 in Idaho Falls. Classes are tentatively scheduled to start January 31, 2012 pending number of registrants and will be held thereafter each Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. through March 20, 2012 (eight weeks of classes) at University Place Room ChE-312.

To sign up for this class, send an e-mail to Jack Simonds (Jack.Simonds@inl.gov) indicating your interest no later than January 20, 2012. Text material will be handed out in the class. If you have questions, call Jack Simonds (526-2770 or 521-4271).

The cost of the class will be $260 for members of the Eastern Idaho Chapter (verification of membership is required at time of payment), which includes the Exam Preparation Text and the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) Guide and free attendance to the chapter meeting for the months of February and March. For nonmembers, the cost is $360, and it only covers the Exam Preparation text and the PMBOK Guide. The course will be based on the 4th edition of the PMBOK.

Current PMP credential holders and East Idaho PMI chapter members that would like to instruct a one-hour segment of the sessions in order to earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) toward maintaining your PMP credential may contact Jack Simonds at the email address or phone number above. Openings for instructors are currently available for February 7, 14, 21, 28, and March 6, 13, and 20 (1 only).

The dues to become a member of the PMI Eastern Idaho Chapter are $20, which you pay when you apply for PMI membership ($129). The class cost does not include the fees to take the PMP exam. The current examination fees are listed below.

The Project Management Professional (PMP®) Credential

Individuals who hold PMI’s PMP credential demonstrate a proficient level of project management leadership skills, and as a result are able to command salaries or obtain positions not available to their non-credentialed counterparts. To be eligible for a PMP credential, you must meet specific requirements that objectively measure experience, education and professional knowledge. You also must agree to adhere to the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and pass the examination.

Education & Experience Eligibility Requirements

With a Bachelor’s Degree (or the global equivalent): Applicants must have a minimum three years’ professional project management experience, during which 4,500 hours are spent leading and directing project tasks, within the last eight years from the time of application and 35 hours of formal project management education.

Without a Bachelor’s Degree (or the global equivalent): Applicants must have a minimum five years’ professional project management experience, during which at least 7,500 hours are spent leading and directing project tasks, within the last eight years from the time of application and 35 hours of formal project management education.

The PMP Handbook, available at http://www.pmi.org/~/media/PDF/Certifications/pdc_pmphandbook.ashx , provides the necessary information to complete the application to sit for the PMP exam.  Please take a close look at the document and get your application to PMI as soon as possible (you can complete the application online at www.pmi.org.)  You must be accepted by PMI and receive an Authorization to Test Letter before you complete the final exam application step.  PMI has the right to audit the application information which might extend the time before you receive the Letter.
