Message from the President

Happy New Year and Congratulations on twenty-five (25) years and still going strong! Yes, to the membership of the Eastern Idaho Chapter of PMI (EIPMI). EIPMI has been promoting project management career and professional development and offering certification, networking and community involvement opportunities in Southeastern Idaho since the spring of 1987. The efforts of several project and program managers within the Idaho National Laboratory resulted in establishment of the Eastern Idaho Chapter which has grown to more than 170 members spanning many companies and businesses.

As we begin the New Year, the EIPMI Board would like to focus on key areas to increase membership value including improved project management knowledge sharing and networking opportunities. The monthly chapter meetings are held the third (3rd) Wednesday of every month with a networking and social time beginning at 6:30 pm. Most meetings include an opportunity to earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) to help meet the 60 PDUs (every 3 years) required to maintain Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. While these meetings allow you to earn PDUs, the primary benefit is gaining insight and additional knowledge into the topic presented. In addition, the meetings provide an opportunity to network with other project managers and discuss an application or approach which may not have been previously considered. I think you will agree that the VP of Programs has been successful in identifying and providing diverse and interesting topics each month.

As mentioned, a strategic goal of the Chapter is to promote and share knowledge of project management. We realize most of our members have busy schedules and it is often very difficult to find time to attend the monthly meetings or get involved with volunteer opportunities. This year the Chapter has established a Linkedin site to expand communications with both members and guests to provide a forum for information exchange and improve your ability to network with other project managers.

I hope to see you at the next monthly chapter meeting. If there is anything that the Board or I can do to improve your experience with the Chapter, please don’t hesitate to let us know. My email address is Lisa.Harvego@eastidahopmi.org.
